Double top! Isle of Man Meats honoured in 2 food industry awards - IOM Meats

Isle of Man Meats has been honoured in two prestigious UK food industry events – the Great British Food Awards, and Meat Management Industry Awards.

The business, which supplies top quality Manx beef, lamb and pork to retailers both on and off-Island, is a finalist in the annual Great British Food Awards that celebrate the finest artisanal produce in Britain and the Isle of Man. They are judged by a panel that reads like a Who’s Who of Britain’s top chefs and restaurateurs, including The Hairy Bikers. Monica Galetti, and Raymond Blanc to name but a few. Winners will be announced on October 28.

Isle of Man Meats was also named as a finalist in the ‘Best Beef Product’ category at the Meat Management Industry Awards evening last week, compered by Liverpool and England legend Kevin Keegan OBE. The awards featured most of the UK’s major food distributors and retailers, including M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda. In both awards it was a mouth-watering Isle of Man Meats rib of beef which tickled the judges’ taste buds. After the highest-rated rib was selected by Isle of Man Meats for the Meat Management Industry Awards entry, records were checked and it was traced back to Scarlett Farm in Castletown. In addition to quality, high standards of traceability was also a key factor in the awards judges’ decision.

Phil Parsons, Plant Director, Isle of Man Meats, said: “We have won several Great Taste Awards in recent years, but this year is the first time we’ve been shortlisted in the Great British Food and Meat Management Industry awards. When you consider the calibre of entrants in both awards, being chosen as finalists is a magnificent achievement and it illustrates the high regard for our products and brand in the UK.”

The Meat Management Industry Awards are a celebration of the creativity, innovation and excellence of the UK’s meat industry with winners being decided by reader votes and product entries, along with a select judging panel for product evaluation. While attending the awards evening, the Isle of Man Meats team also used the opportunity to network and meet UK customers, and it allowed Phil Parsons to introduce his colleagues to some of the many industry contacts he has worked with during his long career. The team also met representatives from Northgate Foods, and M.E.A.T Ipswich which is supporting Isle of Meats’ recently launched NVQ butchery training scheme.

Northgate Foods is a leading UK-based importer and exporter of high quality meat, poultry and seafood products that has been trading successfully for over 30 years. Their contract with Isle of Man Meats began in 2019 and it has opened the door to new export markets for Manx beef, lamb and pork.
