The Shed (Laxey) & Little Shed (Dhoon Glen) - IOM Meats

Offering hearty, wholesome food that’s made using top quality local produce has been a recipe for success for Bev Clegg and her husband Richard who own and run both of these popular eateries.

Bev grew up in Yorkshire, a county steeped in farming tradition and famed the world over for its love of good, honest, no nonsense food and drink. She carried those values with her when she came to the Isle of Man more than 25 years ago, but it wasn’t until 2013 when Bev and Richard entered the food and drink trade with the launch of Creative Juices.

The success of that venture led to The Shed which first opened its doors in 2017. It’s now an award-winning destination established as a focal point for Laxey locals and visitors form further afield. Everyone in the Isle of Man knows that the sun shines here pretty much 365 days a year, but on the odd occasion when we get a weekend when the weather is a little bracing, The Shed’s patrons know there are two great ways to keep out the cold.

Firstly, there’s always a plentiful supply of hot drinks, rugs and blankets to stay warm and cosy outside while admiring the view; and secondly there’s nothing better to put a fire in your belly than a delicious sub with tender, slow-cooked Manx beef in a rich gravy. It’s The Shed’s pièce de résistance, made using silverside from Andreas Meat Co,, and always on the menu at weekends alongside a range of locally sourced pies, paninis, ice creams and coffee. “Our regular weekly order is around 10kg of silverside,” says Bev. “The quality is always excellent, we’ve never had a problem. Our customers like the fact that we use Manx beef, and they often ask us where it’s from and how we roast it overnight to make it so tender.”

The Shed’s super sub recipe never changes. It is quality and consistency that keeps customers coming back for more, and it’s why Bev and Richard always choose beef from Andreas Meat Co which is one of the network of retailers supplied by Isle of Man Meats. Following the success of The Shed, its younger sibling the Little Shed was born in the autumn of 2020. Morgan's Pies (made with meat from Ballahig Farm in St John’s) are one of the most popular items on the menu for visitors to the café in Dhoon Glen.

It’s thanks to people like Bev and Richard that more and more customers are being introduced to the superb taste, texture and consistency of Manx meat. Click here to find out the latest news about The Shed on Facebook, here for the Little Shed, or here to find your local Isle of Man Meats retailer.
