Isle of Man Meats celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) 2021 - IOM Meats

It’s International Women’s Day on March 8th — so Isle of Man Meats is celebrating the contribution that generations of women have made to the Island’s farming sector.

Throughout the Island’s history agriculture has been at the heart of the community, and women have always had an important role to play in running Manx farms. Today, that tradition continues within the 220 producers that enable us to supply delicious Manx beef, lamb and pork to consumers both on and off-Island.

Sarah Kewley, for example, has more than 30 years’ experience as a livestock farmer on the Island, and for the past 20 years she has farmed at Bouilane Farm in Ballamodha. Sarah breeds Texel rams and is one of our farmers that provide us with top quality lambs — and she gets a little help from Molly, her border collie sheepdog!

Kirree Kermode (one of our Procurement Officers and another experienced and respected woman in the Island's farming community) said: "Sarah is very humble and hard-working, and goes quietly about her business producing top quality livestock. She is a fantastic farmer who is an inspiration to us all, and an ideal role model for other women to follow."

To Sarah, and all women in the Isle of Man and around the world who make such a tremendous contribution to farming and rural communities, we say a big ‘thank you’.
