Champions made at Manx Primestock Show 2022 - IOM Meats

A true highlight of the Manx farming calendar and a major event for Isle of Man Meats, the Primestock Show returned this year to celebrate great Manx livestock and farmers in the run up to Christmas.

With over 130 attendees flocking to the Isle of Man Meats plant, from competitors to butchers and VIPs, it was also the biggest Primestock Show event yet.

There was an outstanding showing in the prime Beef, Pork, Lamb and Manx Loaghthan categories, with winners taking away both champion and reserve prizes.

Representing the bright future of the Island’s agricultural community, over 70 competitors took part in the Young Farmers stock judging competition, producing three excellent winners.

Butchers and retailers in attendance took great pleasure in purchasing the very best produce from the event. Traditionally, these exceptional cuts would be displayed in shop windows to entice customers to buy their Christmas centrepiece.

This year, Ramsey-based butchers W E Teare Ltd purchased the prizewinning lambs, while Shoprite bought the Beef and Pork winners.

Alongside the main showcase, visitors enjoyed a festive feast courtesy of Chef Maciej Mierzejewski. His tantalising choice of homemade clementine beef stew and pulled pork and apple rolls went down a storm with special guests DEFA Minister Clare Barber MHK, Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK, His Excellency The Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and his wife Lady Lorimer.

Kirree Kermode, Procurement Officer at Isle of Man Meats, said:

“This year’s Primestock Show was beyond special. With the largest crowd yet, a sensational array of livestock, and more Young Farmers than ever, it was a true celebration of the Manx farming industry at its finest. Congratulations to all the winners.”

“Thank you to the exhibitors, Royal Manx Agricultural Show society, Young Farmers Federation, generous sponsors, and our own staff for making 2022 a landmark year for the show.”
