With more than 30 years in the trade, Andy Hardy – owner and managing director of the Good Stuff Restaurant in Peel Street, Ramsey – is one of the Island’s most experienced and successful restaurateurs with Fiesta Havana, The Courthouse, The Alpine and 1886 also under his belt.
He knows more than most about what makes customers keep coming back for more and, in his latest venture, the name of above the door perfectly explains his secret to success. The Good Stuff Restaurant is all about the simple philosophy that all great restaurants begin with a menu based on using the finest, freshest ingredients. Add a dash of culinary expertise, excellent customer service, serve in a warm and welcoming ambience, and you now have the recipe that has made it such a popular venue.
Andy says: “We are truly blessed to live on such a stunning Island. The quality of the produce that we are able to source locally from producers and farms is a big reason why all of our dishes taste so good, because everything is made fresh in-house from top quality ingredients. It makes a massive difference to the dishes our customers eat – you can literally taste the freshness.”
Good Stuff accommodates up to 120 customers and is also a great place for private functions. That keeps the restaurant very busy. Andy is keen to highlight that it’s a team effort – he is full of praise for the experienced, friendly front of house staff, and culinary magicians in the kitchen and a Head Chef who is a former Isle of Man Chef of the Year award winner.
All of the restaurant’s beef and pork comes from Isle of Man Meats, and it’s the consistent quality of Manx meat which inspires the Good Stuff team to create its most popular, signature dishes. “Our slow-cooked Manx Pork Belly with an apple and celeriac slaw is incredible,” says Andy. “Our homemade burgers are also achieving near-legendary status too! It’s all good stuff, and that’s why we chose the name because that is what we are all about.”
It’s no surprise that the restaurant’s excellent reputation has spread rapidly via word of mouth and social media. “In our first year our food and service have gained over 150 reviews on social media and every single one has been 5 stars,” says Andy.
