Our award-winning beef - traceable from farm to fork - IOM Meats

“What an absolute stunner of a joint. Expertly butchered and prepared. The rendered fat delivers so much buttery, beefy flavour. The meat is tender and delicious. We were fighting over the caramelised ends.”

Those are just some of the comments from judges at this year’s Great Taste Awards (widely regarded as the food industry’s ‘Oscars’). They gave the top-rated 3-Star award to an Isle of Man Meats matured rib of beef sourced from Moaney Moar Farm in Cronk y Voddy. In addition to being bowled over by the joint’s superb taste and texture, judges were equally impressed with the fact that it could be traced back to a specific farm. That’s because traceability is now a major concern in the food industry with customers, retailers and industry regulators paying much more attention to how food gets from pasture to plate.

Stewart Howard from Moaney Moar Farm has over 30 years’ experience in breeding top quality beef cattle. The matured rib of beef supplied to the Great Taste Awards was from one of his herd.
Stewart said: “We breed Simmental cross Angus cows with Limousin or Charolais bulls. This gives us continental traits for growth, while the Angus traits produce excellent marbling, taste and texture.”

For consumers, chefs (and Great Taste Awards judges!) that means top quality meat which is tender, juicy, and full of flavour.

Winning a 3-Star Great Taste Award puts Stewart, Moaney Moar Farm and Isle of Man Meats in a very exclusive club. Producers from 108 countries entered 14,113 products in this year’s awards, but only 218 were given 3-Stars. That puts Moaney Moar Farm and us in the top 1.5% of producers!
